Land Salzburg - introduction of a nationwide fabric network infrastructure
Requirements
In order to meet the future challenges of a modern network environment, it became necessary to replace the old classic network with a technically mature, flexible and future-proof network solution. Primary customer requirements included a complete re-design in the core and access area, the increase of network performance, IT security and economic efficiency. In addition, great importance was placed on network segmentation in the areas of administration, building management and future IoT applications.
Services & Solutions
- Controlware was awarded the contract for conception, planning, project management and care services.
- The network solution includes both the network components for the central IT infrastructure of the administration and a network access control (NAC) solution for the secure connection of end devices.
- Together with the customer and the partner Extreme Networks, the project was successfully implemented in four sub-projects:
- As-is/target analysis, network design and service specifications.
- Pilot phase in real operation
- Roll-out and customising of the required applications in the core and access area
- Project handover and implementation of the care services for the core and data centre area
Advantages & benefits
The network is fully virtualised from the core to the access area and can be flexibly expanded according to requirements. This is made possible by the Fabric Connect technology from Extreme Networks, which is not only used in the data centre, but also in the campus/access area. This allows virtual networks to be designed flexibly and quickly, service times to be significantly improved and on-demand applications to be made available dynamically. The overall solution offers high security and user-friendliness. Furthermore, the administration effort has been considerably reduced, as the end devices are automatically assigned to the VLANs via the network access control solution. The new IT infrastructure also supports the automated integration of future end devices and applications in order to realise new working methods in the areas of digitalisation, Internet of Things and building infrastructure control.
