Next-Generation Firewalling with SD-WAN

Requirements

The Luxembourg-based CQLT SaarGummi Technologies S.à r.l. group was looking for a suitable partner to update its firewall infrastructure. The firewall landscape was to be standardized and modernized at twelve locations worldwide. The goal was to replace the heterogeneous architecture with next-generation firewalls and to merge them into a powerful, centrally managed network.
Palo Alto Networks was chosen as the firewall manufacturer and Controlware as the system integrator.

Services & Solutions

At the beginning of the project, extensive consultation took place on the selection of suitable models and on the sizing of the firewalls for the sites. A mix of Next-Generation Firewalls (NGFWs) from the PA series with a high security level were used. These firewalls not only check the port and protocol, they also analyze the entire content of the network. Since the NGFWs also support a broad set of SD-WAN functionalities for controlling network traffic as standard, the decision was made during the course of the project to also replace the customer's costly MPLS lines with an innovative, software-defined wide area network. PAN-OS SD-WAN is flexible in operation and the technology allows all network transport variants to be bundled in a virtualized manner and managed centrally.

Advantages & Benefits

The customer now has efficient and centralized management of all firewall systems.
The firewalls can be easily operated via the Panorama hybrid platform and controlled from a uniform console to ensure more efficient operation worldwide and minimize sources of error.
With the Palo Alto Networks solution, the decision was made in favor of a flexible platform that will grow with the company as needed.
With Controlware as a service provider, the company found a partner who helps to realize the potential of the systems with hotline services, care service and remote support and who will also be on hand for future projects.
